On March 31, 1732, Franconia Township was
incorporated from what was a portion of Salford Township.
Settled primarily by Dutch- and German-speaking immigrants,
the township still retains much of its rural character and
charm. Today, while some farms remain, new houses, small businesses,
and other developments are noticeable. Township planners hope
to concentrate new developments around the townships
boundary with Souderton and Telford Boroughs. Today, many
signs of the old Pennsylvania German cultural practices can
still be seen. It should be noted that some homes and businesses
may have a Souderton or Telford mailing address, but are actually
located in Franconia Township.
PUBLIC SERVICES:
The areas surrounding Souderton and Telford Boroughs and the
small village of Franconia are serviced by public water and
sewer facilities. A full-time police force serves the community.
Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies. Residential
trash disposal is arranged by private contractors.
RECREATION:
Township facilities include two public parks that include
softball fields. Tennis courts are also available. Little
League programs are run by private organizations. For more
information on what is available, please call 215-723-1137.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
No SEPTA bus or rail lines serve the township.
SHOPPING:
A small neighborhood shopping center is available. Souderton
and Telford boroughs are easily accessible. The nearest major
shopping mall is the Montgomery Mall.
